This Just In (And a FREE, exclusive lesson)

Welcome to this edition of Fingerstyle Monthly.

Monthly, you may ask. Well, not exactly monthly for several months, I'm afraid. Sometimes life gets in the way of our best intentions. I've been working quite a bit lately on my own music and my non-learn-fingerstyle-guitar.com web presence.

There's another reason for the break in the output of the newsletter. Simply enough, I haven't had anything new to say. The way that I approach playing fingerstyle guitar is already laid out on the website. In brief, learn the mechanics.

Learn to control your picking hand ( the engine of your fingerpicking vehicle), and learn intervals, scales and chord theory for your fretting hand ( the GPS). When you've learned these things, apply them to the songs that you want to play. It's that simple!

Simple but not neccesarily easy.

As I've mentioned before, I spent several years working in a guitar shop that specialized in high end acoustic guitars (Madison Music Company). In that time I came to understand the true currency for becoming a proficient guitarist. It doesn't matter how many thousands of dollars your guitar costs.

The only currency that you can spend to improve your playing is time. When you've spent enough time practicing guitar, you improve.

Talent helps, of course. But, frankly, talent alone is over rated. I'm still firmly convinced that if someone has the desire, they can overcome nearly anything that stands between where they are now and where they want to be as a player.

In the future, you won't be seeing Fingerstyle Monthly. Instead you'll open your email to find the Fingerstyle Report. It won't be monthly but it will be full of information helpful information.

Until then, I want to leave you with this little guitar lick. Have fun with it and I'll see you soon!
