Get High With Swing Low

Welcome to this edition of Fingerstyle Monthly. In this issue we will take another look at Swing Low Sweet Chariot. You can find the music http://www.mediafire.com/?zm2digfnh5x here.

For this variation we are going to raise the melody one octave. This is a very common arranging “trick”. We will use different forms of the chords that we used in the earlier versions.

We’ll still be using CAGED Chords in this version.

You will find variations of the C, E, and G shapes used. Bar with the first finger and make the chord shapes with fingers 2-4 as needed.

Once you get the chord forms under your fingers you’ll be in good shape. The arrangement is pretty straight forward. The only point of interest is in measure 4. The notes that are fretted on the 12th fret can also be played on the same strings unfretted.

For variety’s sake you can combine last month’s version and this month’s. Then you’ll have a longer version played over two octaves.

Have fun with it and contact me with any questions.

Next month we’ll look at chords that we can substitute for the original chords.

Free Chord Book

The chord book that I mentioned in last months Fingerstyle Monthly is now ready. I’ve been offering it as a bonus for new subscribers. I would also like to share it with my “old” subscribers.

You will need Adobe Reader (the latest version is recommended) installed on your computer in order to open and read this ebook. You can get Adobe Reader here (a new window will open so you can download it without leaving this page).

If you want to open the file in your browser window, just click on the link. However, if you want to download the file to view later, then right-click on the link and choose "Save Target As" or "Save File As." Then select where you want to save the file on your hard drive.

Once you have saved the file, locate where you saved it, and double click to open.

In order to print, open the downloaded file, and select the "Print" option from the ebook menu.

Right-click to download this Chord Theory 101 file here.

I hope that you enjoy this issue of Fingerstyle Monthly. If you have friends that might enjoy it, please share it with them.

See you next month.
